In the days since the tornado hit our community, the Greater St. Louis, Inc. team has been working in support of the efforts led by the City and County of St. Louis and the State of Missouri to address the most immediate needs of our community. We are also working in collaboration with the Regional Business Council and other leaders to bring to bear the resources of the business community to rebuild our community.
The needs of our community are urgent, and we want to provide you with as much information as we can about how to help and where to get resources.
As of this Monday morning, May 19:
The priority is getting the following supplies in advance of expected storms:
- Tarps
- Plywood and two-by-fours
- Wood screws
- Exterior caulk and caulk guns
- Tools: Hammers, tape, flashlights, wheelbarrows, drills, reciprocating saws, utility knives
Additional supplies needed: batteries, tents, ponchos, umbrellas, paper towels, cleaning products, disinfecting wipes, bleach, and first aid kits
The City is asking for those supplies to be taken to one of the following three locations:
- The O’Fallon Park YMCA at 4343 West Florissant Ave.
- The Urban League headquarters at Kingshighway and Page Blvd.
- 4 the Ville at 4144 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.
Volunteers Needed – The need for volunteers is great, with the biggest immediate need in advance of the incoming weather being volunteers who can help secure tarps to roofs and for the proper equipment to get to roofs safely.
Donations Needed – The City of St. Louis has worked with the St. Louis Community Foundation to establish the City of St. Louis Tornado Response Fund. This fund supports the efforts to provide immediate relief and long-term rebuilding of areas impacted by the storms.
Impacted Businesses – Through the St. Louis Development Corporation, the City has set up an assessment form to help understand the needs of businesses impacted by the storm.
Relief and Resources – If you or anyone you know needs immediate relief or is looking for resources, please go to the St. Louis City resource page.
United Way Relief Fund – In addition to the City of St. Louis Tornado Relief Fund, you can also make contributions to the United Way of Greater St. Louis Severe Storm/Tornado Relief Fund, which supports residents across the bi-state region who were impacted by the recent storms.
Thank you for your support of our neighbors in need.
