Greater St. Louis, Inc. Statement on Transit Funding in Missouri

Today, Greater St. Louis, Inc. — along with Citizens for Modern Transit, Missouri Public Transit Association, and others — submitted testimony in support of the Missouri Department of Transportation’s $8.7 million public transit budget request. Tracy Henke, Chief Policy Officer of Greater St. Louis, Inc. and President, ChamberSTL, issued the following statement on increasing transit funding in the FY 2023 Missouri budget:

“As identified in the STL 2030 Jobs Plan, public transportation is essential to inclusive economic growth by reducing barriers for residents in historically isolated communities, enabling them to access employment opportunities as well as education, training, and health care.

“Unfortunately, Missouri is ranked 47th nationally in state funding for transit, and for the past four years, the state has only appropriated $1.7 million annually for public transit, which is split between 34 Missouri transit providers serving every county in the state. This budget request will provide a much needed boost to public transportation in our state.”
