Statement from Greater St. Louis, Inc. and Regional Business Council Re: Resettlement to St. Louis of Families from Afghanistan
Jason Hall, CEO of Greater St. Louis, Inc., and Kathy Osborn, President and CEO of the Regional Business Council, issued today the following statement regarding efforts to resettle to St. Louis families from the humanitarian crisis taking place in Afghanistan:
“The images we see of the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan are heartbreaking, and our first thoughts are with the safety and well-being of the Afghan people.
“As leaders of the St. Louis business community, we support efforts to welcome the families being evacuated from Afghanistan through the Special Immigrant Visa program to our community. Our region is lucky to be home to the International Institute, a world class organization that specializes in resettling refugees, as they showed following the war and humanitarian crisis nearly 30 years ago in Bosnia when they resettled more than 6,500 refugees from Bosnia and worked with many more who have migrated to St. Louis.
“The business community stands ready to help, and will work with the International Institute, our government officials, and any other organizations involved to welcome these families to our region.”
